Organic Desert Crasman C lean and contemporary was the owner's goal for her Hilton Head residence. Inspired by desert homes in Arizona, the organic designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, and the harmony of an Asian aesthetic, the distinctive home is tailored and cleanly detailed. The home sits on a plinth to ensure it remains safe above the floodplain. That plinth becomes a part of the house at the entry. As one travels around the side of the home, it serves as planters and then a base for the pool as it wraps around every exterior feature. Horizontal stone from the Dominican Republic was selected in a random pattern, but the cut sizes followed strict requirements to create a layered look of stones from two to eight inches tall on the façade. Inside, the same material serves a different purpose to create an organic feel. Oversized columns in the outdoor and indoor living spaces ground the design, while retractable, folding glass wall panels open the two spaces up to create one, flowing living area. Rich mahogany inlaid in the floor mirrors the ceiling and connects the two through sophisticated symmetry. Camens Architectural Group worked alongside the interior designer to ensure that the architecture and materials selected reflected the overall design and came together cohesively. KIAWAH ISLAND, SC
