G
rowing up in Cyprus, Vassos Demetriou, AIA, designed sets for
school plays, not knowing how that experience would inform
his chosen profession. In his late teens, he discovered architecture
and began plotting a career that led him to the University of Oregon,
where he earned a B.Arch., and where he currently serves as a
member of the board of advisors for the School of Architecture and
Allied Arts.
In 1978, Vassos founded Demetriou Architects, and ever since, the
firm's focus has been design, as all architectural styles stem from
good design. Vassos and his team actively listen to clients and ask
questions to draw out and capture the essence of their thinking.
With imagination and experience, the firm defines the aesthetic
and functional requirements to deliver solutions that are distinctive
and individual.
Vassos derives inspiration by creating and tailoring structures for someone
specific. The relationship aspect of the design process drives him from the
first meeting until the structure is complete. Building connections helps him
craft a program for his clients' needs, desires, and lifestyles. He takes into
consideration the functional aspects of architecture, as well as the artistic
component. Vassos approaches each project with an open mind, free of
stylistic preconceptions. In the end, clients receive classic architecture that
transcends time.
