BELOW & FACING PAGE: Kayak House is a 3,700 square-foot home that I designed for an avid kayaker and his wife. They wanted
a weekend retreat dedicated to the kayak and the river. It's located on the South Fork of the American River overlooking one of the
best kayak runs in Northern California. The site is four-and-a-half acres, only a few miles from where gold was discovered in 1848.
The 25-foot high living room faces upriver, offering an ever-changing tableau of kayaks and rafts drifting past, while the 35-foot
high dining room faces the owner's private kayak launch.
