BELOW TOP & BOTTOM: Water features throughout the interior and exterior add an additional level of sensory experience. Chuck Lang, the general contractor, purchased a half-million board feet of clear vertical grain Douglas fir from a lumber mill in Oregon– depleting their stock for this project. Douglas fir was used throughout the residence; this includes the floors, ceilings, cabinets, doors, built-up fascia, and all the trim. Plaster walls and poured-in-place concrete, using a veneer system that Mr. Applebaum invented, are the outcome. The architecture possesses a strong sense of openness with plenty of natural light.
