GARNACHA
gourmet pairings
Paella is an exceptionally
good pairing. Spiced, flavorful
seafood and rich bites of
sausage nestled in a savory
skillet of seasoned rice are
a perfect complement to a
bottle of Garnacha.
tasting notes
Cherry-juice aromas meet rounded star anise and spice on
the nose of this estate, single-vineyard wine. There is a chalky
elegance on the mid-palate from the chalk and limestone shale
soils of the vineyard that frames flavors of red fruit and orange
rind. It finishes with giant, lingering vanilla notes. This is a
powerful wine that offers medium alcohol, balanced acidity, and
overall deep raspberry and wild strawberry flavors.
winemaker's insight
The old-school double goblet head trained system is used,
which pairs nicely with the chalk/limestone shale soils. It allows
unobstructed airflow through the vines and fruit clusters for
even maturity in the fruit, and limits the amount of fruit the vine
will produce. The majority of Garnacha grown in Spain is also
head trained. A head trained vine has no wires and can look like
a small tree in the vineyard with several extensions (branches)
coming off the trunk of the vine. This is key in making the Estate
Garnacha one of the best wines at Red Soles.
