37 CaliPaso Winery PASO ROBLES Somewhere between California's two largest metropolitan areas lies a quiet getaway, nestled in the rolling hills of Paso Robles. CaliPaso is a luxurious inn and winery set on the Central Coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco and is the perfect example of why the region is famous for its wine and beauty. Long interested in the wine business, in 2012, Mr. Wu was originally searching for opportunities in the Napa Valley area, until he had a chance to visit the CaliPaso property in the Estrella region of Paso Robles. For Mr. Wu and his family, it was love at first sight, and they acquired the property soon after. Still today, CaliPaso Winery is a family-owned winery that takes great pride in showing off the hospitality of the area as well as its wines. CaliPaso's estate vineyards were originally planted in 1981. The majority of the vineyard is currently producing three of the eight major Italian varietals Sangiovese, Primitivo, and Nebbiolo. However, work has already begun on replacing those vines with Cabernet Sauvignon, which the winery has already had immense success in growing on a small plot directly behind the inn. In addition to estate-grown offerings, they produce Cuvée Blanc which is a white Rhone blend, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and Pinot Noir. The grape-growing climate in Paso Robles is ideal for the production of award-winning premium wines. A long growing season of warm days and cool evenings gives rise to vibrantly ripened fruit with dynamic flavor profiles that make some of the world's finest wines.
