DeTierra Vineyards
CARMEL-BY-THE SEA
De Tierra Vineyards is owned by Dan McDonnal and Alix Lynn Bosch, and
their goal is simple: to produce the highest quality hand-crafted, limited-
production wines from the unique terroir of Monterey County. De Tierra
translates from Italian to mean "of the land," and as the name suggests, De
Tierra focuses on providing the best representation of this land. Dan and Alix
produce distinct, award-winning, and sustainably harvested wines. Great
wines begin in the vineyard, and it is their objective to transform the defining
flavors of this terroir into premium wine.
The winery began in 1998 as an organic grape-growing operation in the Salinas
Valley by Tom Russell, an agriculture professional from Phoenix, Arizona. He
was passionate about wine and farming, and wanted to explore the benefits
of organic farming with wine grapes. The site Tom selected for the Russell
Vineyard, Corral De Tierra, is situated between Salinas and Carmel Valley, the
area that writer John Steinbeck refers to in his book Pastures of Heaven. Dan
and Alix have the privilege of carrying on De Tierra's tradition of producing
superior boutique wines.
What started as little more than a hobby has blossomed into a thriving
artisanal brand with distribution in 22 states, numerous accolades, a thriving
wine club, and a burgeoning team of experienced wine enthusiasts at its helm.
De Tierra produces nine single varietals: Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir,
