This book covers Livermore Valley, located about 35 miles east
of San Francisco and regarded as one of the oldest wine regions
in the state. This is where the historic Wente family propagated
the Chardonnay clone, which became the genetic source of 80
percent of Chardonnay vines in California.
California's wine industry continues to make a sizable impact
on the U.S. economy and its global image. As per the Wine
Institute's current report, California is America's number-one
wine state and the fourth largest producer in the world and
accounts for more than 95 percent of U.S. wine exports. The
state is home to 139 AVAs, scattered around some 637,000
acres of vineyards, where more than 110 wine grape varieties
are planted that contribute to 4.28 million tons of grapes. With
so much to offer, it's no wonder that the state attracts upwards
of 24 million tourists to the wineries annually, generating $4.2
billion in annual tourism expenditures.
This book presents a comprehensive insight in the region's wine
trails, chronicling the finest estate and boutique wineries and
their passionate winemakers. We hope you enjoy the Central
Coast wine experience.
