A team since 2004, with more than 30 years of collective experience
between them, Christopher Hays and Allison Ewing are leaders in the green
design movement. Integrating techniques such as cooling through natural
ventilation, rainwater collection, and harnessing energy from the sun, the
duo has become experts at harmonizing buildings with their surrounding
environment. They believe that enduring architecture springs from a deep
understanding of the place, the needs of the project, and the desires of the
client, all the while directed by ecological principles and utilizing sustainable
best practices.
A wide variety of projects, in both type and scale, have allowed them to
tackle diverse projects and places with a clear vision that's specific to each.
With a global architectural background, both Allison and Christopher have
lived and worked in Europe and Asia in addition to the United States, and
both have participated in award-winning projects with such bold-face names
as Cesar Pelli, Renzo Piano, and William McDonough. Their firm primarily
serves Virginia and North Carolina, but has undertaken projects across the
U.S., in Canada, and Europe.
