It provides additional views in several directions and enhances the natural airflow through the home. BELOW BOTTOM: Because the homeowners plan to retire here, the house was created for one-level living. The long south wing encloses the guest bedrooms and a home office. The north wing, which is rotated 45 degrees in plan and oriented to the verdant view of the Pamet River, houses the master bedroom suite. FACING PAGE TOP & BOTTOM: Natural light and air flow were key elements for this house. This is apparent in the use of large, functional windows in every space. Deep roof overhangs with ventilating clerestory windows promote natural cooling and ventilation, while shading the interior in the summer months. We additionally used passive and active solar design principles and incorporated photovoltaic panels at the garage roof. Photographs by Peter Vanderwarker
