THE MODERN RESIDENCE
ABOVE: This West Virginia home is located near both a river and set of
trees that fork together, so that idea inspired the layout. The guest suite is
completely separate from the rest of the home, on its own end of the building.
LEFT: We were able to save all the trees, even the ones growing into the
house, and the effect is almost like you're camping.
FACING PAGE TOP: The entire home is floating off the ground, with two
curved roofs that feed rainwater into the trees and a little dipping pool in
the back.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: We had to think about the trees' sub-roots, so we
carefully placed columns around each one so that none got damaged and
then installed a sprinkling system underneath the house. The end result is
indoor/outdoor trees that are super healthy and truly bring the outdoors in.
