THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: We designed this property for a family who was originally from Santa Monica. They wanted to integrate a California influence
into their New Jersey home, rather than the more traditional housing stock of Tudor and colonial styles that dominate many of the local
neighborhoods. The front façade relies on stucco and aluminum along with the warmth of wood grain to provide a sleek, modern approach.
FACING PAGE: The blending of the interior and exterior was important to the family and reflected how they live, so we integrated a range
of outdoor, transitional areas, including the second-floor balcony off the master suite and a patio at the first level. The homeowner happens
to be a mixed media artist and he designed the mural that's painted on the stucco by the patio; it brings energy and a punch of color to
this gathering area.
