Murdough Design
CONCORD, MA
Murdough Design, founded in 2007, is a small, collaborative design studio
focused on site-specific and experientially driven residential architecture.
Using the site as its main source of inspiration, the team's design solutions
are unique responses to the specifics of its context: space, landscape,
climate, light, and the place's cultural history. Their thoughtful use of
materials and construction inform an architecture that is both of the moment
and timeless. Considered choreography of occupants' movement through
the architecture and site create an experiential narrative of spaces, views,
and other tangible/intangible moments—further linking architecture and
the site to the occupants' perception. In creating these intrinsic connections
between the site, landscape, and self, Murdough Design attempts to
heighten an awareness of place and one's connection to it.
A belief in the process of exploration and discovery is at the core of the
team's approach. Never pre-meditated, designs evolve through a learning
process: understanding the client, the site, and other factors specific to each
project. Design from an experiential standpoint is prioritized and, at the
earliest phases of design, emphasis is given to three-dimensional modeling.
This collaborative and iterative approach facilitates a successful design
dialogue between the architects and clients.
