Paul Lukez Architecture
SOMERVILLE, MA
As a student in Holland, Paul Lukez was drawn to architecture
because it could embody art, history, science, math, engineering,
and nature—all at once. He also liked that it served people and
society, something he explored through the wisdom of his mentor,
multi-disciplinary artist Koo Stroo. Today, Paul continues to find
inspiration from many sources, and even if they're non-architectural
they're always deeply rooted in the site and project circumstances.
Natural light is a particular guide, as Paul and his team are
endlessly intrigued by how spaces are given life and form by this
"universal gift," as he refers to it, "one that calls upon us to use it
with poetic intent and human delight in mind."
This interplay of nature and man-made space echoes the process
for Paul, which brings together clients, colleagues, builders, and
communities to collectively create something that did not exist
before. In the end, Paul's designs celebrate the craft of building,
how things come together in special ways that not only resolve
important technical details and challenges but bring a sense of
calm and comfort to the people occupying a space.
