THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: Set on 60 acres of rolling pastures near the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, this home appears
to float in a sea of grass. We didn't want the home to compete with its surroundings, so we designed it to blend in to the
site, using a minimalist design.
FACING PAGE: When you get closer to the home, it becomes a highly articulated box with a level of detail that's initially hard
to detect. We used ipe, a Brazilian hardwood, for the home's exterior because of its ability to show off natural weathering. As
it ages, the wood takes on an organic, silver sheen.
