THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW & FACING PAGE: While building this waterfront home, we worked with the site's sharp sloped grade elevations and
dramatic dropdowns. The design incorporates terraced beds and an infinity pool which are embedded into the landscaping. We
kept materials simple and practical. Aluminum tubes make up the pergola, which can withstand humidity and adverse weather.
Traditional options, such as wood, are less stable and susceptible to the sometimes-damp coastal climate. The house takes full
advantage of solar energy, with solar panels and an orientation that helps it stay warm during the wintertime and cool throughout
the summer. We relied on a geothermal system, so no gas or fossil fuels are used.
