THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW TOP: Our goal was to emphasize the urban character of the neighborhood by presenting this open and compatible design along the street. We split the
house into areas of one story and two stories, avoiding an overwhelming presence and breaking the roofline and scale. The composition of the exterior elevation
was developed around the beautiful Ficus tree in the front. The windows on the bedrooms and stairway were placed to allow for different perspectives of the tree.
BELOW BOTTOM: The living, dining and kitchen area is surrounded by operable doors and windows with the goal of providing a seamless transition between
interior and exterior. In order to provide a variety of exterior experiences while protecting the interior glazed area from the effects of heat, we used different layers
of shading features, such as deep porches, an aluminum pergola and concrete overhangs. We designed these elements to provide a distinct appearance in the
tradition of South Florida modern architecture.
