THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW & FACING PAGE: We designed the Sumner Bohannon House for a site that required careful preservation of the slope and
trees. Adjacent to a 100-year floodplain, the home had to be carefully integrated into the site's considerable natural grade, pro-
tecting the surrounding mature trees. The distinctive exterior is clad in painted brick accented with vertical cedar screens shielding
walls and certain large expanses of windows. Galvanized metal is utilized for roofing and exterior wall cladding, particularly where
the roof and wall planes intersect. Large areas of glass, oriented to the views, make up the final exterior element.
