ArchitecTor
SCOTTSDALE, AZ
Tor Stuart, principal architect and founder of ArchitecTor, embraces
the colors, textures, and views of the natural environment by
integrating abundant indoor-outdoor living spaces and effectively
creating an environment that lives much larger than the contained
floor area. Tor creates homes in harmony with nature, where the
goal is for the architecture to take on a chameleon-like quality,
even disappearing into the landscape from certain angles. He uses
elements such as cantilevers, long spans, and retracting window
walls to integrate unique, contemporary engineering into homes.
For more than 25 years, Tor Stuart's body of work has balanced
delicate detail and bold complexities inspired by the beauty of the
land. Working in styles from contemporary to traditional, from
modern to pueblo, Stuart strives to design homes that form a union
with their site, where visual delights await around every corner.
Inspired by the natural textures and colors of the Sonoran Desert,
he creates homes that fit harmoniously with the land. Growing up
in Norway, Tor was fascinated by ancient Norwegian vegetative
roof systems. That fascination evolved into a powerful belief in the
importance of green architecture and sustainable design. ArchitecTor
projects increasingly rely on sustainable features such as net-zero
energy consumption and taking advantage of the natural light.
