11 "What inspires us most is honoring a site and operating from an atmosphere of stewardship and ecological sensitivity." –Andrew Dunbar TOP LEFT: We drew inspiration for this custom fireplace from a storm lantern. It also holds the speakers for the drop-down projection screen above and pro- vides wood storage for the fire—all while balancing the weight of the concrete plinth that emerges from the floor below. TOP RIGHT: We like to call this the sunrise kitchen—it catches the sun's rays each morning and its vivid blood-orange color resonates across the entire space. Wood cladding conceals the refrigerator and freezer and extends out- wards through the glass wall to the exterior garden kitchen beyond. Photographs by Brad Laughton BOTTOM: The signature, verdant green hue continues from the exterior of the home upwards into the heart of the house and then through the corridor linking the two volumes. The vibrant shade works as a chromatic orientation device all the way through the entire space. Photograph by Andrew Dunbar, INTERSTICE Architects FACING PAGE TOP: The two-story living room is richly connected to the outdoors via natural wood tones and vibrant, saturated colors, each uniquely echoed from the surrounding forest. FACING PAGE BOTTOM : No need for art when the views are an ever-chang- ing wonder, seen in their full majesty with glass walls that slide open onto the deck. The living area is a giant aperture framing both the Canadian Rockies eastward across the Georgia Straight and the island's coastal wetlands to the west. Photographs by Brad Laughton
