THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: Just three meters above sea level, the Saratoga Beach House forms part of a protected coastline in the heart of the windswept Oyster River
Basin of Vancouver Island. The geometric dwelling acts as two organically interconnected frames; one mineral and one wood, both of which float
above a virtually undisturbed site located between one of the world's richest marine tidal ecosystems to the northeast and a wetland preserve to the
southwest.
FACING PAGE: The home is strategically built within a grove of 350-year-old Douglas fir trees, thus sharing their shelter and maintaining this essential
habitat for bald eagles and a host of other wildlife. Preserving these majestic trees and pristine coast heavily influenced every aspect of this house and
landscape design that was engineered to halt coastal erosion while rebuilding the coastal riparian beach.
