A cosmopolitan outlook influenced much of the reception, but the earlier events still carried the
traditional elements. The bride's father was critically ill and sadly passed away only weeks after
the wedding, so it was especially meaningful that he was still able to participate in and enjoy his
daughter's wedding. With so much of her family focused on the bride, I made sure to give the groom
the attention he also deserved. Since the couple lives in New York, a certain level of stylishness ran
throughout the wedding. Darryl & Co. introduced the first X-shaped dance floor seen in the area,
an innovative way of allowing the guests plenty of room to move while still ensuring everyone felt
special. Lounge areas reminiscent of chic New York nightclubs were situated at each corner, providing
a place to sit and rest while still feeling like part of the action. It was important that the skits planned
for the reception were thoroughly rehearsed prior to the big day, since those performances can
sometimes come off as corny and unfocused. Thanks to some dedicated organization—and a truly
spot-on impersonation of the bride by her sister—the skit was a major hit.
