5 Kitchens ABOVE TOP: This kitchen was inspired by the homeowner's inherited primitive corner cupboard in the adjacent space. We pulled the finish of the wood into the hood, used an antique wall cabinet, and varied the heights of the cabinets for an unfitted look. ABOVE BOTTOM: When we did a kitchen remodel for a couple with young kids, our biggest challenge was to create a small table next to the L-shaped island that was safe for the children to use. In order to make the table secure, we had to pull off an engineering feat. We pinned the table leg through the basement and also tapped through the glass f rom the top, then floated the glass on a tile edge and siliconed it to keep it in place. This makes an ideal study space that can be overseen by the cook. The lighting incorporates an antique pendant with contemporary fixtures, and well-placed task lighting.
