Rethinking Architecture: From the Inside Out
Aquatic Contemporary
T
he owners traveled the world by boat for two years before deciding to build the home of their
dreams.
Living by the sea was essential, and Marc took the owners' love of the ocean as inspiration for this
home's design. The reverse floor plan features the master bedroom on the top floor, overlooking the
ocean. The suite's barreled ceiling and private balcony make it a romantic hideaway for the couple, who
love the privacy of the room and have left the French doors and surrounding windows bare to wake up
the ocean at sunrise. While the exterior had to be integrated with the older architecture of the neigh-
borhood, inside, the owners' love of contemporary design makes for a clean, open feel. In the combined
living and dining space, Marc stepped the design out a bit to create a view that looks past the homes
next door and all the way down the coast. With such wide expanses of glass, fine wood detailing, and
a contemporary aesthetic, you almost feel as if you've stepped onto a luxury yacht.
Outside, two additional outdoor living spaces—one on the main floor, one on the entry level—provide
ample space for entertaining or simply listening to the waves.
