Artfully Italian
H
ailing from the metropolitan New York and New Jersey region, the owner brought his Italian
tastes and appreciation for high style to Kiawah Island for retirement. The shingle-style home
sits near the street, but its layout and the lush landscape provide the owners with privacy, complete
with an entry courtyard to connect the outdoor private areas with the home itself.
Inside, the living room and dining room—located along the back of the floor plan to separate it from any
vehicle traffic that might pass by on the street—are separated by a distinctive colonnade structure. The
feature nods to the owner's Italian heritage but possesses an edge that keeps it sleek and uncluttered.
Dark hardwood floors and custom cabinetry add warmth to the otherwise white space.
The kitchen features a large breakfast island and an intentional cabinetry arrangement. The refrigerator
is hidden from view, but glass doors on either side of the large window showcase collectible serving
pieces and glassware. Upstairs, the master bedroom awaits with a slatted barrel ceiling and fireplace.
The connected bathroom includes a walk-in shower built on-level with the rest of the floor. An attached
master closet features two entries and a connected laundry room.
Other surprises in the home include private spaces for guests, a secluded television room, and an
elevator to move between the floors.
