ABOVE: A galley kitchen set within a ranch-style home features plenty of midcentury nods and common-sense design. With no traditional wall cabinets, the champagne-
stain, rift-cut vertical veneer storage is used for heavy plates and cookware, which makes lifting and moving items much easier. Focal points include the often-used
chalkboard and the custom hood in a pale gray high-gloss paint. Although they require some extra maintenance, black Brazilian soapstone countertops add a beautiful
dark layer against the white marble-stacked mosaic tile. The drawers designate work zones and help divvy up duties with multiple cooks in the kitchen.
