2 INSPIRED INTERIORS
ABOVE: The owners of this home in Charlestown, Rhode Island, enjoy living in rhythm with their ocean surroundings and are mindful of preserving its natural beauty,
so this renovation was exactly my kind of job. I try to incorporate elements of feng shui into my designs, and every element—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—is
represented here. We used a lot of natural materials such as grasses, wools, and linens, along with plenty of plants, to help the home sit within its environment. The home
really reflects the owners' lifestyle, which is something I always try to capture.
FACING PAGE TOP: Having been renovated into a year-round home, this 1930s beach house enjoys an enlarged sunroom that can be enjoyed during every New England
season. There are no window treatments to obstruct the east and south-facing views of the sunrise, gardens, and 100-year-old trees. The wood ceiling, coupled with the
wood floor and wood trunk, is balanced by the metal umbrellas on the gable end—a feng shui element.
