34 INSPIRED INTERIORS
ABOVE & LEFT: These empty nesters—and returning North Carolina residents—
wanted a f resh take on traditional design. We worked with builder Rufty Homes
to create a living room that felt welcoming enough for kids and grandkids, yet
sophisticated and impressive to the adult eye. The wall of windows opens to the
porch, which is fitted with Phantom Screens for a seamless outdoor/indoor look.
For a touch of interest, we added navy grasscloth to the bookcases to highlight the
stone on the fireplace.
FACING PAGE With three young children, the parents at this home were craving
an elegant space that felt reserved for them. Family-f riendly materials were still
used, but the overall effect is serene and chic. Loyd Builders helped make the
design of the fireplace the feature that it is, with sconces, molding, and mirrors
drawing the eye to the interesting cast stone.
