ABOVE, TOP LEFT & RIGHT: This classic Virginia country home has two parlors off the foyer that were perfect to transform into Af rican- and Asian-themed rooms that hold
memories for the globe-trotting homeowners. In the Af rican room, we chose rich textures in a smoky grey palette with red accents, eel-skin wall coverings, and an Italian
porcelain-tile fireplace wall with a faux leather texture.
ABOVE, BOTTOM LEFT & RIGHT: The Asian room has three walls covered in a teal metallic backed cork, with the far wall accented in reclaimed wood planks. We added a
water feature as a serene backdrop to the Buddha statue, and a chaise basks in sunlight for a place to stretch out and meditate. The window treatment is a hand-blocked
Chinoiserie linen, and the valance is a pagoda shape.
FACING PAGE: To fabricate the mantel in the sunroom, an antique Asian door and doorway were disassembled and repurposed. Ceramic tile with a corroded green and
copper finish complements the weather-worn wood. We chose rustic woven wallpaper to soften the look of the walls. The shaped valances and Roman shade hems were
trimmed with strips of embroidered linen, all hand-sewn to perfection.
