BELOW: Steeped in history, this late-1800s home needed an overhaul. The original enclosed kitchen was designed for staff, with
a service staircase leading to the upper floors. Removing the staircase grew the kitchen by 50 feet, providing ample space for a
massive kitchen island and a modern layout. The new kitchen reflects a classic black and white color palette with a jolt of color
f rom the crimson Jean De Merry Lumiere chandelier. Classic soapstone is used throughout, with beveled subway tiles wrapping
the walls. French limestone in an ebonized finish was placed on the diagonal to bring movement and flow to the floor. Bertoia
barstools add just the right contemporary touch.
