ABOVE & FACING PAGE: I designed this f resh and classic kitchen around a treasured piece of artwork the clients had, which influenced the navy island. The subway tile
seems traditional, but there's a faint crackle to it that imparts a modern edge. Wide-plank white porcelain tile echoes the large apron sink—which we call a Belfast sink in
Ireland. Because everything was so neutral, I wanted custom pendants that popped, and there's a larger, matching white one hanging over the dining table.

FACING PAGE RIGHT: The weightiness of the steel pulls balances the satin matte maple slab cabinet doors, which almost look like furniture. This kitchen is a mix of
midcentury modern with traditional, and a hint of Asian through the 3-D tiles that are laid to resemble origami. The clients did not want glass shelving, so I developed a
lighting system to run behind each exposed shelf so that the light would wash over their plates and glassware.
