164 INSPIRED INTERIORS
BELOW TOP: We had several priorities when we designed this kitchen: satisfy the needs of a gourmet cook, preserve views of the mountains, provide for large informal
gatherings, and create a warm contemporary environment. Under-counter storage allows for window walls and maintains openness. The cabinetry is quarter-fumed red
gum and countertops are leathered granite. A contemporary-styled island combines custom acacia wood butcher block with finished metal table top and shelves.
BELOW BOTTOM: Here we used a large, multi-functional island to provide a casual, inviting space to cook, talk, and enjoy meals. The windows offer expansive views of the
desert and allow homeowners to experience the outdoors f rom every angle.
