344 INSPIRED INTERIORS BELOW & FACING PAGE: When we worked with a homeowner who is 100-percent Irish, we created an authentic-looking traditional Irish pub in his existing basement. The look had to include rustic oak, dark woods, textured paint, brick walls, and a tin-tile ceiling, all layered to make it look like it was added over time. The space also had to have practical finishes to withstand two children under 10, two dogs, and two cats, plus beer spills and possible wet floors due to the patio entry. Made f rom red oak, the wainscot, bar, and cabinetry are custom-designed with an ebonized finish, all milled and built on-site. The bar's steel top is acid-splashed for an aged aesthetic and finished with a clear coat for durability. The rail runs f rom the bar to the dart board corner, providing a place to rest a pint along one entire wall. We painted all of the crown, door, and window trim in a color that would blend in with the mortar and help add to the darker atmosphere in a pub setting. The double- sliding entry doors are made of reclaimed wood. Contractor: Oxford Contracting Photographs by Quentin Penn-Hollar, QPH Photo Interiors by Kathy Corbet Interiors, Richmond, VA, page 387
