Always by Design Architecture

ABOVE: I use natural elements in every space—including water, organic materials, and sunlight—sometimes in unexpected ways. A courtyard with bubbling fountain
serves as the transition into this private sanctuary located in the urban Rittenhouse Square section of Philadelphia. For the entry garden room shown here, the owners
and I chose a linear gas fireplace, warm colors, wood, and handcrafted textiles to welcome family and f riends alike.
LEFT: My goal was to seamlessly knit more than a dozen different floor levels together that had resulted f rom a prior awkward merger of two separate townhomes. I did
this with a new floating glass-and-wood staircase. Not only did the new staircase allow removal of three existing space-wasting stairs, but a new skylight above it now
brings a sense of centering and natural light to the core of the home.
