ABOVE, LEFT & FACING PAGE: Located in the Druid Hills Historic District of Atlanta, this
1920s bungalow had two major constraints: the historic facade could not change, and
alterations and additions could not be seen f rom the street. This presented a major
challenge in creating the second story addition. Other site constraints included an
existing pool and an extremely steep driveway. Challenges often drive design, and in this
case allowed for the creative expansion of a traditional plan to a current and livable home.
The addition of a second story, an open cabana, and a detached garage/studio greatly
expanded the use of the entire property.
