7 ABOVE & FACING PAGE RIGHT: A client came to us to design a home close to the top of a mountain near Altoona, Pennsylvania. We had a rustic barn and spring house to work with on site. We ref reshed both structures with timber sawn on the property, and the spring house transformed into a hunting lodge. The house boasts almost the full scope of 360-degree views and offers a private retreat at the rear of the home. FACING PAGE LEFT: The foyer became the link between the owners' suite with the rear porch and the main living spaces of the home. The family room has 13-foot ceilings that open up to the rear of the home with tall windows. As the central spot of the home, the family room has access to the rear porch, dining room, kitchen, and nook. The idea was to create family gathering spaces for the older and younger children where they can enjoy the views and enjoy the weather at the same time. The home has rustic accent beams, soft woods, and plank walls and ceilings to highlight the transitional farm house flair.
