ABOVE: Conservation was key during this project, as we strived to maintain the building's historic
integrity and charm. Zoning, building codes, conservation requirements, and the ever-present
moisture f rom the stream below created numerous challenges. The finished home is an architectural
feat thanks to the help of dedicated engineers and talented contractors.
LEFT: We opened up the main center bay by removing some less-than-ideal elements, including
a brick wall that served as a partition between the narrow galley kitchen and dark living space. In
addition, we sliced open the roof and added a bridge to unite the two sides of the carriage house.
Now the two rooms are flooded with natural light and flow seamlessly into one another.
