Founder and principal Gary Canner's skills and talents are as diverse as his portfolio. Architectural DesignWorks transcends its name by rendering
award-winning designs in a wide array of project types, from residential and commercial to adaptive re-use and historic preservation. Prior to
relocating ADW to New England in 2009, Gary practiced architecture and historic preservation in Hawaii. While there, a devastating hurricane
struck Hawaii and made landfall on the island of Kauai. Gary became the first Historic Preservation Planner for the county government and was
instrumental in the recovery efforts of damaged historic buildings and cultural resources. He then joined FEMA, performing similar recovery
efforts as a preservation officer throughout Hawaii and the South Pacific. The firm currently takes on projects in New England and Hawaii.
