ABOVE: The f ront entry, with its concrete screen block and orange custom f ront door, recalls vintage
design elements of midcentury-modern homes of the 1950s and '60s. Inside, there is an open floorplan
configuration, where the wood-clad wall of the kitchen is the only space divider within the main living
areas. The open plan and vertical spatial perception, created by the mono-sloped roof, allow the modest-
sized living spaces to feel larger.
FACING PAGE: The kitchen is central to the open floorplan and designed with minimalistic elegance. The
back wall of the kitchen stops short of the roof plane, so the eye sees a spatial continuum with borrowed
light achievable f rom the living room's southern glass. In the spirit of midcentury homes, a steel beam
and columns are exposed with open wood roof joists and decking, thus creating an interior architecture
expression with no need for additive elements or decoration.
