ABOVE & LEFT: Rebuilding the rear wall was an opportunity to open the back of the house and
reorient it toward the park. The dining room opens completely to the park, while the kitchen and
restored f ront parlor benefit f rom the natural light.
FACING PAGE: Although unified in appearance, the window-assembly operation is unique to each
floor. We f ramed the terrace on the lowest level, completely opened up the kitchen floor, and triple-
hung windows connect the rear parlor to the balcony. The entire assembly adapts to its neighbors
by maintaining 19th-century intervals and details while the mechanics are completely modern. The
wall above reuses the face brick of the original building to maintain compatibility with its neighbors.
