ABOVE & LEFT: Located in Brooklyn, this once-abandoned 1885 brownstone was completely gutted by the
previous owner, which became a blank canvas where I could bring my vision to life. The indoor-outdoor
connection was a key piece of the design philosophy, and details throughout the home help create that
seamless integration. I brought in as much natural light as possible, including to the garden-level apartment
below the main house. The wood planks on the deck have extra spacing between them to allow the sunlight
to filter beneath, while the glass doors also allow for plenty of natural light and an easy transition f rom interior
to exterior.
FACING PAGE: Old homes such as this are typically compartmentalized, so my goal was to structurally
declutter, maximize space, and create a large-scale living area. The patio doors offer a continuous flow f rom
the living room, and the deck flooring runs the same direction as the living room's wood floor. These elements
augment the feeling of openness and draw the eye out to the full length of the space.
