ABOVE: Modern interpretations of classic forms make for some of the most inspiring projects, and was a guiding principle in our 2 Barns project. The design is based on
two modern barn forms connected by a glass walkway. Each gable end of the home is clad in a three-dimensional panel system. The panels match the slope of the roof
and create striking feature walls throughout the project. The main entry and recessed openings at the large sliding doors are clad in wood at the ceiling and side walls.
This touch of natural wood complements the metal skin that runs continuously f rom grade to the peak of the roof.
FACING PAGE: 2 Barns is a high-performance home and is rated as a net-zero residence, creating more energy than it uses. The modern barn-like massing lends itself to a
design with no noticeable overhangs, which allowed the design team to create continuous paths for exterior insulation, air flow, and continuous air sealing with no thermal
bridging. The materials palette of the architecture emphasizes clean, continuous materials and the interiors follow suit. The furnishings inside the home are a combination
of custom-made pieces, vintage furniture finds, and new furniture.
