ABOVE, LEFT & FACING PAGE: Located in the Druid Hills Historic District of Atlanta, this
1920s bungalow had two major constraints: the historic façade could not change, and
alterations and additions could not be seen f rom the street. This presented a major
challenge in creating the second-story addition. Other site constraints included an
existing pool and an extremely steep driveway. Challenges often drive design, and in this
case allowed for the creative expansion of a traditional plan to a current and livable home.
The addition of a second story, an open cabana, and a detached garage/studio greatly
expanded the use of the entire property.
