ABOVE & FACING PAGE: We created our Urban Tea House to accommodate both the private and public customs of brewing and drinking Chinese tea. Formal rules
and informal enjoyment overlap with one another in a calm and contemporary space. The use of a limited materials palette—including Bateige Blue limestone, warm
natural walnut, and light, soothing paint colors—symbolizes the simple but highly choreographed series of steps in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Open shelving
in the living room displays the paraphernalia and supports the ceremonial traditions, while the kitchen integrates all the appliances and encloses all the cabinets to
maximize surfaces and storage.
