ABOVE & LEFT: Set on the Potomac River, the Gelman-Salop Residence pulls f rom the text of Exodus, marking
a visual reference to Moses parting the waters. For the homeowners, this is their promised land, complete
with passive solar elements and calming peaceful vistas. Large overhangs align with the sun angles to utilize
winter solar gain, as well as summer shade protection. The home has the sense of a hushed sigh where velvet
sunshine dapples.
FACING PAGE: Modern exterior materials such as steel, copper, and glass are elevating homeowner quality,
taking new homes to higher level of long-term sustainability. These materials offer the power to endure.
Homes are no longer temporary but instead offer us the honor of being the archaeology of tomorrow.
