ABOVE & FACING PAGE: The potential in this Arlington Colonial was obvious, and the new owners embraced change by adding a family room over the garage, centralizing
the main staircase, and turning the attic space into a lofty his-and-hers office. As a result, the home now has a much better flow, more openness, and lots of natural light.
The home is super energy-efficient, with energy costs reduced by 60 percent even as the total square footage increased by 63 percent. A geothermal heating and cooling
system joins a zoned radiant floor heating system, ultra-energy-efficient UV windows and glass doors, and a super insulated envelope. Designed with options, the third
floor can be converted f rom an office into two bedrooms with an additional bath in the northeast corner, which we pre-wired and plumbed.
