329 ABOVE & RIGHT: The program of this waterf ront home came f rom the owners' desire to transform their existing 1950s, single-level, 70-foot-by 40-foot lakef ront home into an updated cozy abode. The catch was to maintain the existing foundation, reclaim as much of the original heart-pine beams as possible, and preserve the original large stone fireplace. My solution was to slightly modify the existing footprint and locate the additional heated space above on a new second level. FACING PAGE: The most important factor was to increase the views to the lake. Because of site restrictions, the solution was to design an oversized, cantilevered bay window in the great room that created an almost panoramic view of the lake, which helped connect the indoor living space to the outside. Other unique features include a large screened porch that juts out toward the lake, butterfly stairs facing the water that invite you in as you approach the house, and an abundance of natural light.
