361 ABOVE & RIGHT: We wanted to engage the outdoors f rom the interior, so we designed this house to constantly interact with its site and the weather. The patio is a seamless extension of the dining room and flanked with glass to the floor for extreme viewing angles into the landscape. Standing at the kitchen sink, you become engaged with the landscape and scenery around the house. The deep patio roof helps open the grand kitchen sink window, even in a heavy downpour, which reinforces the air and the sound of the rain and gives the feeling of being outside. Allowing for tons of natural light, the patio roof has minimal impact on your view out of the space. FACING PAGE: Glass was an important material in the main body of the house, which has a sloped ceiling starting at 12 feet and increasing to 16. This was ideal for a band of clerestory windows to maximize natural light. Full-height glass that runs all the way to the floor of the living room corner provides an uninterrupted view down to an existing meadow on the property.
