ABOVE & FACING PAGE: Conceived as a timber-f rame design for the owners to retire in, Captain Mountain Sunrise is a 7,750-square-foot house that exploits its
elevated site for maximum effect, f rom the observatory perched high above the tree line to the stunning, unobstructed mountain vistas f rom inside and the strategic
roof overhangs that shelter the large glass apertures f rom the hot summer sun. Southwestern style cues and timber detailing contribute to its sense of place in the
New Mexico highlands. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of rich wildlife, the home features a timber-vaulted gallery, a grand living room with an attached deck, and
a separate cantilevered wraparound deck. The lower level hosts bonus rooms as well as a large recreation space, exercise room, guest bedroom, and a safe room vault.
