RIGHT, BELOW & FACING PAGE: A brother and sister duo desired a cabin
on Washington's Lake Chelan that captured their love for the area and
history with the property—their family has owned a lakef ront cabin on
an adjacent property since the 1960s. The site presented a duality of
opportunities: one, to showcase the lake and the vast mountains beyond
while two, creating refuge f rom the elements in the forest and hills inland.
As such, the cabin is comprised of two simple buildings connected by a
living room enclosed by glass. The exterior of the cabin is quiet, with the
intention of blending into its surroundings. The cedar siding was stained
to match the bark of the surrounding pine trees. Metal-clad doors and
windows and a metal roof round out the simple palette of materials.
